Today’s Shia Sahar and Iftar Time in Rawalpindi
Shia families in Rawalpindi keep a slightly different clock in Ramadan, and this page is set to it. The Sahar and iftar times follow Fiqa Jafria (Imamia), worked out for the city’s own position and updated every day. If you open your roza with your imambargah rather than the general azan, the counter above already shows your time, not the Sunni time printed on most Ramadan banners around the city.

Why Shia Iftar in Pindi Comes 10 Minutes Later
The delay is about when the day is truly over, not a disagreement about the clock. Under Fiqa Jafria, Maghrib does not begin the moment the sun’s disc slips below the skyline. It begins a little later, when the redness of dusk in the eastern sky, known as humrah mashriqiyyah, has risen overhead and passed. That is the sign that ghurub-e-aftab is settled beyond doubt, and only then is the fast opened.
The redness takes several minutes to clear, so Shia iftar always falls after the Sunni time. Pakistani Ramadan calendars, this one included, fix the gap at 10 minutes after the Hanafi iftar. Some imambargah timetables use a slightly longer gap on certain days; if yours prints its own calendar, follow it, and on any evening you are unsure, wait until the eastern sky has darkened.
Why Shia Sahar Closes Sooner
The same caution works in reverse at dawn. Jafria Sahar ends 10 minutes before the Hanafi Sehri time, a cushion of ihtiyat (imsak) placed before the true start of Fajr so nothing is eaten past the limit. For anyone on the Imamia calendar the rhythm is simple: put the spoon down a little sooner in the morning, and lift the date a little later at dusk.
The niyyat for the fast is made in the heart and can be made at any time during the night; for Ramadan, many scholars allow one intention at the start of the month for all its fasts. Eating Sahar is mustahab, even if it is only a few dates and a glass of water.

Read the table straight: each figure is already the Imamia time, with Sahar pulled earlier and iftar pushed later, so no adding or subtracting is needed. Times are fixed to the date, so if your community starts Ramadan a day earlier or later, follow the row for the date, not the roza number.
Important Ramadan Nights for the Shia Community in Rawalpindi
The nights of the 19th, 21st and 23rd of Ramadan are kept as the nights of Qadr, with majalis, nawafil and the recital of Dua-e-Jawshan Kabir in imambargahs across Rawalpindi. The 21st is Youm-e-Ali, the day of Imam Ali’s shahadat, when the city’s main mourning processions take place. Dates below are counted from this calendar’s first roza; an Islamic night begins at Maghrib on the evening before its date.
| Occasion | Islamic date | On this calendar |
|---|---|---|
| Wiladat of Imam Hasan (a.s.) | 15 Ramadan | Thursday, 5 March 2026 |

Iftar Dua in Fiqa Jafria
اَللّٰهُمَّ لَكَ صُمْتُ وَعَلٰى رِزْقِكَ اَفْطَرْتُ وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ
Allahumma laka sumtu, wa ‘ala rizqika aftartu, wa ‘alayka tawakkaltu. “O Allah, for You I fasted, with Your provision I break my fast, and in You I place my trust.”
This dua is found in Shia dua collections and is read in most Shia homes in Pakistan just before opening the fast.
How These Shia Timings Are Calculated
Each time is worked out from the sun’s position over Rawalpindi city (33.6° N, 73.0667° E) in Pakistan Standard Time:
- Find true dawn, when the sun is 18° below the horizon (the Karachi method), and sunset, when its upper edge disappears after correcting for refraction.
- Add a one-minute safety margin: dawn one minute earlier and sunset one minute later. These are the Hanafi times.
- Apply the Jafria adjustment: Sahar 10 minutes before the Hanafi Sehri and iftar 10 minutes after the Hanafi iftar.
The page recalculates at midnight Pakistan time, and the same times hold across Rawalpindi, from the old city to Chaklala and Bahria Town.
Moon Sighting and Eid ul-Fitr
Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin in Pakistan on Monday, 8 February 2027. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee looks for the crescent after sunset on 29 Sha’ban, the evening of Sunday, 7 February 2027. If the moon is seen, the first Sehri is the next morning; if not, Sha’ban completes 30 days and Ramadan starts a day later. Eid ul-Fitr is then expected on 9 March 2027 or 10 March 2027.
Some Shia families follow the moon-sighting announcement of their marja’s office, which can differ from the national one by a day. The daily times stay the same; only the first and last day of the month move.
